Often those driven after truth
Compelled by some inner demon
As mine, that of poetry—
Prying beneath the masks
Our words
To abstract inners,
We are all too often
First to breathe
More deeply, and retain,
Pheromones of lies—

Call it writers’ egos
(I prefer passions)

And the masked-ball
Our fond deceptions,

Dictionary and Thesaurus
The king and queen
Their crowns purchased
A volume at a time—
