"Love, You Are Distanced" (by Joe DiMino)
Love, you are distanced by many
To a lofty concept; purported
To be universal,
In the sense of
That impersonal God
Un-worshipped by agnostics--
Yet I feel you as a near sacrament;
Taste you as a blood Eucharist;
Share with you
As the green earth and I
Partake of each other's breaths:
Surely if there is a myth on you,
Worn as a laurel,
It is not the romantic who
Has placed it there alone--
No, my love!
But placed there a crown
Upon you by the cynic
Who has taken himself out
From beneath you,
To only find of his solid
Kings and kingdoms
Nothing worshipped but love
Lasts at all
.
