"Double Minded" (by Joe DiMino)
Nature calls
To my better senses
Cautiously
I answer with silence,
Having learned to be wary
Of the intrusion
Of my
Other humanity
Hungrily I peep out:
Blending to foliage;
Stilling, as the near
Lichen rocks
I desperately
Want to imitate
Feeling green as fields,
Opening to blossoming
Yet wisely
Scenting myself down-wind
To stop
The bolting:
We are of the same blood
Recalling Kiplings Mowgli
While crippled as Shere Khan
Too often
Lame to the heart
Of mercy
And beauty
