"No Tragic Loss" by Joe DiMino

This has been no tragic loss,
For the treasure has always
Been that of heaven—
For one, such as I
More than par has been the course,
The traps entered over wide,
And the matches forfeited,
All of those of pride—

Here I stand, defeated;
And that is victorious
In fact!
Having completed to lack
Most of earthy self;
The mortal victory near won—
The ripening of my spirit
Done enough to say,
If somehow parting
This very day,
On my way to future higher,
This human soul
Becoming a loftier flyer,
I would make a sacred vow,
Leaving this candle
Of me now,
Along the path
So others
Serving may follow….
