"Only Love" by Joe DiMino.

The shell of me
Is in constant chamber;
My pistol nature
To point and fire—
The Warrior-creed:
“To die first
And then seek
A finer cause”—
The surface of all spent
Become missiles
For deeper contention;

Oh to give that sulfur-charge
A less pungent scent!
To ride on tail of currents
Free from the shaft
And its feathers;
Yes—it is the eagle
That soars,
And lions
Do dutifully roar
But only love
Can carry the soul
To true loft of freedom!
