"Over A Bottle of Wine" (by Joe DiMino)

We are near
yet distant
voices crossing alien worlds
for strangers to the heart:

We spoke on and on
about life and death
all that comes between;
spoke about careful planning--
the value of a dream;
spoke on and on
about one man's worth
some would say
a speck in the major scheme--

spoke on and on
scraping our speakers clean

Then went back
to living our silence

We part
for the heart
often remains aloof
exile
though in its own land....

(We touch
our separation with fever
for the living heart
is never silent
thus we quicken
each beat into tongues--
till one the merciful delirium)
