"Remember" (by Joe DiMino)

Remember that little boat?—
The homemade rod and tiny cork float;
The big one that always got away,
We sketched for pa in the backyard clay—

Well— I caught him today. At last! Today!
Using a hundred dollar lure in a private bay;
Sure put up a hell of a fight!
But I landed him…did everything right:

Did everything according to the book…
Tell the truth—didn’t have to look;
Already knew his weight and size—
Knew the stare of his bulging eyes…
Know what he’ll look like
Fixed on the wall—

But to be honest with you

I wish he could fall

Back into the sea

Far back as the child
And pure fantasy
