"The Moon Smiled" (by Joe DiMino)

The moon smiled
In the face of darkness—
The earth
Still called it night;
The sun rose
To a yawn
And a groan,
Drawn were the shades
On light;
Sunday came,
The preacher pleading
From the pulpit: “Repent
Or forfeit your souls!”
The congregation rejoicing
Left their tithes
Went to their cars
Put on Polaroids
And drove away
