"The Way of the Heart" by Joe DiMino

I stood upon the shore
and thought,
were my beginnings
somewhere in the sea?
So very, very long ago,
feeling sense of eternity;

and why did I leave
such a perfect place?
Was not God
there also with me?

But the land is green
and its own way full,
my soul seeming
eternally
inclined to leap
and fly—
egged on by
what seems
an immortal eye…

and yet, and yet,
the thought
of a world
without you, my love—
I think then
I would lay down
and die.
