"You can't have your cake..." by Joe DiMino
The night has its stars
for wandering,
into the dark of schemes;
and the day
its focused light
concentrating
beams-
while I, as Poe, keep wondering?
dreams within dreams
.
I tend to my garden
tucking seeds
with lullabies;
imagining shoots,
rising and green;
with the sunniest
blossoms
a garden has
ever seen;
(we are
all planters
with hearts;
some addicted to soil
while others
to other parts,
of the many, seasoned things
giving height and breadth
to a city
)
and then comes
harvest-
a victory
of joy and pity:
my mouth watering
while little stomach
for the process
of consuming
.
