The last star
went out--
in the towns,
in the cities,
the grownups
didn't care, last night,
when the only
star left went out....
All the Children
heard it--
though asleep
in cribs, in mothers'
beds--the last
star went out.... They
awoke: began
to cry, for the little
dimming voice.
