"Love!" (by Joe DiMino)

Amazing what I have done
In name of it—
The price I have paid—
I mean, it’s not like
Something you can wear,
Unless a smile is apparel;
Not a flashy gem
Unless one counts
That certain sparkle
In the eyes
Of those blessed,
Or the warmth
Of near presence
From a loving heart,
That somehow makes
Winters less cold,
And rainy evenings
Less damp
And more cozy—
LOVE! 4 stinking letters
I have risked all for,
Perishing time and again
To retain!
