"The Writer" by Joe DiMino

As with
other predators
I am best alert
at night…
my prey
the typical
going for
the jugular
of words—

Ancients say,
life’s spirit is
in the blood—

The poet
knowing well,
the table
and carpet
with his kill;
applying his art
till the bare-bones
and published
put to rest
with the dawn
